The reproduction of the Mona Lisa on platinum-palladium, printed in actual size, is a unique work. Photographed at the Louvre with Lumière Technology’s multi-spectral camera invented by Pascal Cotte, this Mona Lisa was printed at the Georges Charlier studios in Belgium, one of the few in Europe to master the platinum-palladium technique.
These photo-sensitive salts of some of the rarest and most costly metals have the characteristic of being absolutely unalterable, especially when exposed to strong or prolonged light. They are, therefore, more stable than gold. Due to its density, palladium produces the darkest blacks, while platinum, due to its extremely fine grain, is capable of reproducing the most subtle nuances under strong light.
Printed on handsome, pure rag velum d’Arches – thus acid-free – 300 grams per square meter thick, with unusual softness and beautiful warmth obtained only through special production methods, this print is the one that most faithfully reproduces the techniques used by Léonardo da Vinci in the La Joconde painting. Photographer Pascal Cotte offers collectors of beautiful works a special reproduction--unique, numbered and signed—of the infra-red image he made of the Mona Lisa—an image that penetrated below the surface of the painting to reveal the 25 secrets of Léonardo da Vinci’s greatest work. |
